Kendrick Lamar is making an appearance for SJSU's 2018 commencement on May 23.
Commencement will be held in the Avaya Stadium at 5 P.M. and Lamar is expected to speak at 6 P.M.
Lamar is seen as one of the greatest and influential rappers of this generation.
Lamar is known for his influential "good kid, m.A.A.d city" that illustrated life on the gang and drug infested streets in his home city of Compton.
He is the first rapper to win the Pulitzer Prize for music in history through his hit 2017 album "DAMN" and has earned 12 Grammy Awards throughout his career.
In addition to his solo career, Lamar is also a member of Black Hippy, a musical group comprised of fellow LA based rappers Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and Schoolboy Q.
SJSU is honored to have Lamar appear for the graduating class and impart his knowledge.
"It's a great honor to be able to speak to the graduating class of 2018. SJSU is known for it's diverse community and support for the unprivileged. In honor of that, I have something a little special planned for the class of 2018," said Lamar.
He declined to expand upon his plans for the graduating class, claiming that it was a surprise.
The student body is ecstatic about his upcoming arrival.
"Kendrick Lamar is one of the greats. Tickets to his last show sold for $300 and sold out in days. Being able to see him for a fraction of the price is a dream come true," says Nathan Winetraub, a graduating student. "Having him be there when I graduate is one of the greatest send offs I can ask for."
The appearance of Kendrick Lamar is expected to fill the seats of Avaya Stadium.
"Having Kendrick Lamar appear at our commencement is a blessing and a curse. His name alone draws out a crowd and we expect to have trouble accommodating the mass of people he's going to bring in," says Laura Matthews, head supervisor for the 2018 commencement.
She claims that this year is going to be the biggest commencement to date and that they are making preparations for Lamar's arrival.
Preparations include increased security and creating accommodations for the influx of people that will fill Avaya Stadium.
